This film is adapted from the stage play written by female author Marguerite Duras in 1968, starring the French national treasure actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and Niels Schneider, who has recently been nominated for the César Award for Best Actor. It tells the story of wealthy Mrs. Suzanna and her lover spending a day in a seaside villa. Director Benoît Jacquot, a former student of Duras, is skilled at capturing the subtle changes in female psychology. With his adept staging combined with the changing light by the sea, and Gainsbourg's brilliant performance, he intricately portrays a seemingly aloof yet internally anxious wealthy housewife, who deceives herself in her marriage and emotions. The film was selected for the exhibition section of the 2021 Hong Kong International Film Festival.
