The film is adapted from the novel "Love at West Lake" by Wang Xufeng, winner of the Mao Dun Literature Prize. The story is set against the backdrop of one of the ten scenes of West Lake, "Willow Sounding of Orioles," and primarily recounts the emotional entanglements between two girls from a Jiangnan Yue opera troupe and a painter in the 1990s. The highly talented young performer Chuitiao (played by Wang Yang) has known the flower actress Yinxin (played by Kan Xin) since childhood, growing up together in the theater. Despite their contrasting personalities, they are like sisters. Chuitiao lives passionately for the stage, while Yinxin appears innocent and naive but is actually cunning and knows how to navigate relationships. They were once the most important people in each other's lives, but life’s unpredictability and various disagreements, especially with the emergence of Hangzhou painter Gong Yujun (played by Zheng Yunlong), lead these two closely bonded girls to experience love and conflict. As times change and Yue opera declines, the fates of Chuitiao and Yinxin rise and fall with the art form. When the music ends and people disperse, the one person she cannot let go of is still her.
