In the winter after the "September 18" Incident in 1931, a small town in Zhejiang, like many places across the country, ignited a movement to boycott Japanese goods. Lin Mingxiu (Ma Wei), the daughter of the owner of "Linyuanji," was scorned by her classmates for wearing a qipao made of Japanese fabric. She returned home in tears, blaming her father for selling so much foreign merchandise. At the same time, Lin's father (Xie Tian) was struggling with the county party's order to stop selling Japanese goods and had no choice but to label them as "domestic products" for sale. With the year-end approaching, it was the time to collect debts, and various shops resorted to discounting their goods to undercut each other. The news of the "January 28" Shanghai battle added to Lin's worries, as he still owed money to a Shanghai merchant. When a Shanghai client (Chen Shu) came to collect the debt, Lin had to borrow from the moneylender, who was not only unwilling to help but also demanded repayment of existing debts. Meanwhile, Lin's rival, "Yuchangxiang," spread rumors that Lin was planning to flee with money, prompting minority shareholders to come demanding their investment back. Lin had no choice but to seek help from President Yu (Han Tao) to dispel the rumors; however, President Yu seized the opportunity to suggest that Lin's daughter could become the mistress of the police chief. Upon hearing this, Lin's father almost lost his mind.......
