In a small town in Indiana with a population of less than a thousand and no dance schools, 21-year-old Rollin Coby (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has lived her whole life. The small auto parts factory left by Rollin’s parents is now managed by her brother, and if all goes as expected, Rollin's future will revolve around the factory... but this is not the life she wants. Rollin has been self-taught in dance for many years, and this time she drives to Chicago to take the entrance exam for a dance school, hoping to get accepted and change her life. However, the outcome is harsh, and after being eliminated, Rollin refuses to go home. With the help of a fellow dancer who also failed, she finds a job as a bookkeeper at a dance hall and tells herself that the extravagant dances there aren't her style. Yet, her passion for dance cannot be hidden, and finally, due to the absence of a dancer, Rollin gets a chance to showcase herself...
