One day, an unexpected event causes Jack to realize that the union he has always trusted may not be the embodiment of correctness and justice. Disillusioned, Jack chooses to leave the East Coast of America and moves to Los Angeles alone. In Los Angeles, Jack is taken in by a woman living in the Japanese district, who provides him with a job. During this time, Jack meets the woman's daughter, Lily (played by Tamlyn Tomita). Despite their significant cultural differences, they fall in love and decide to get married. However, the laws in California at the time did not support interracial marriage, making their path to marriage long and full of uncertainties.
