Arbor (Conner Chapman) is a 13-year-old naive boy who is often bullied and ostracized in his community due to his somewhat cowardly personality. He tries his best to avoid the malice directed at him and has never thought of fighting back. Arbor has only one friend, Swift (Shaun Thomas), who is also discriminated against. By chance, Arbor and Swift meet a scrap dealer named "Kitten" (Sean Gilder), who teaches the two boys how to drive a horse-drawn cart. The boys become Kitten's apprentices, helping him collect scrap metal to earn some extra cash. As Arbor spends time with the horse, he gradually discovers his talent for communicating with animals. However, in Swift's eyes, the horse is merely a means for making money, which leads to a rift in the boys' friendship.
