This film tells the story of the fiery and straightforward Li Shuangshuang (played by Zhang Ruifang) who loves to meddle in others' affairs and boldly confronts selfish and greedy people in the production team. Her husband, Sun Xiwang (played by Zhong Xinghuo), is her opposite—timid, conflict-averse, concerned with appearances, and a male chauvinist. When the production team is repairing the water canal, Li Shuangshuang joins a few idle women from home to participate in the labor, which infuriates Xiwang, who demands that she stay home to cook and take care of the children. This leads to a loud argument between them. Shuangshuang raises concerns to the production team about the disorganized and careless evaluation of women's work points and reports to the commune party committee about the irresponsible behavior of work record keeper Xiwang, deputy captain Jin Qiao (played by Liu Fei), and member Sun You (played by Cui Wenshun), who cheat to gain more work points. After being elected the women's team leader by the community, Xiwang fears he won't be able to control Shuangshuang in the future, so he sets three rules for her, which she refuses to accept, leading to Xiwang angrily leaving home to work with the horse cart. The Sun You couple aims to marry their daughter Guiying off to the city, but Guiying already has someone she likes and goes to Shuangshuang for help to send the suitor away. Sun You's wife causes a scene with Shuangshuang, which is conveniently witnessed by the returning Xiwang, making him angry again and leaving home... This film won the Best Narrative Feature, Best Screenwriter, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor awards at the 2nd "Popular Film" Hundred Flowers Awards in 1963.
