Heller (played by Emil Jannings) is an actor in the juggling troupe, and he performs the flying trapeze act with his wife Bertna (played by Maly Delschaft), which is beloved by the audience. However, over time, Bertna's figure gradually changes, and she is no longer suitable for performing the flying trapeze. Reluctantly, Heller takes her to another juggling troupe in Hamburg, Germany, to make a living. Belta (played by Lya De Putti) is a frequent audience member who, upon meeting Heller, begins to try performing on stage. To everyone's surprise, Belta's performances become extremely popular, and she becomes the star of the juggling troupe. In their daily interactions, Heller falls in love with the young and beautiful Belta, and he heartlessly abandons his wife to elope with Belta.
