A pair of hitmen, Ken and Ray (played by Colin Farrell), arrive in the ancient Belgian city of Bruges during Christmas, where they will receive a new assignment from their contact Harry (played by Ralph Fiennes). Ray, who recently misfired during an assassination, accidentally killed a young boy, and his deep guilt leaves him emotionally unstable; the wait in the ancient city becomes a torturous ordeal for him. Ken, his mentor who introduced him to the profession, tries to assist Ray in overcoming his predicament, but his efforts prove futile. Bored and restless, Ray meets a mysterious actress named Chloe, sparking a series of adventurous experiences. Meanwhile, Ken is once again pressured by Harry, revealing that the true nature of this assignment is that an enraged Harry wants Ray to pay the price for his accidental killing. Faced with the dilemma of betraying the young man he brought into the world of hitmen, Ken struggles with his decision, while both hitmen harbor their own secrets in the night-lit ancient city...
