After the death of his father, Joe accompanies his mother, Katarina, to Italy for an opera performance. However, due to loneliness, he becomes addicted to drugs, causing Katarina great pain. She indulges Joe excessively, leading to a twisted relationship between them. Fortunately, a moral awakening prevents any serious missteps. Katarina, left with no choice, reveals the long-hidden secret that Joe has another biological father, prompting Joe to seek out his real father to reunite his parents. The director uses Freud's psychoanalytic theories to explain the behavior of this mother-son duo, suggesting that all human meaning and capability stem from the demands of sexual desire. The moon serves as a symbol of the mother and feminine imagery, metaphorically representing the mother’s sexual influence on her son.
