The story begins in 1964, when James (played by Armie Hammer) is an art critic. One day, he visits a personal exhibition in Paris of the famous artist Alberto Giacometti (played by Geoffrey Rush). To James's surprise, he has the fortune of meeting Giacometti himself. Not only that, but Giacometti invites him to his studio to be his model. Thus begins James's close encounter with this legendary artist. In the crowded and narrow studio, James witnesses the struggles and genius that Giacometti experiences. While painting James's portrait, Giacometti repeatedly tears up the completed works, as his creativity seems to hit a bottleneck. Will he be able to finish the portrait on time?
