Maria (played by Dakota Blue Richards) is left with a heavy debt after her father's death, who only bequeaths her a thick ancient book titled "The History of Moonhill," which contains the fairy tale of the Moon Princess and the white horse. At thirteen, Maria becomes an orphan and goes to stay with her uncle Benjamin (played by Ioan Gruffudd) at the Moonhill estate. However, shortly after arriving at the castle, strange events begin to unfold: her belongings are often misplaced, the piano plays by itself, and at night, a shadow of a white horse wanders outside... Yet her uncle refuses to reveal anything about these mysteries, prompting Maria to secretly read the ancient book that her uncle has hidden away. She finally uncovers a long-lost tale of mystery and vengeance tied to Moonhill; it turns out the entire valley has been under the curse of the Moon Princess for a century, waiting for a savior with a pure heart to break the spell... The film is adapted from the classic novel "The Moon Princess in the Castle" by British children's author Elizabeth Goudge.
