In 1936, 34-year-old Napoleon (played by Andreas Konstantinou) was arrested by Nazi Germany while participating in the Greek resistance and imprisoned in Laconia prison. It was there that an attack by Greek resistance forces on the Nazis resulted in the deaths of a Nazi general and three guards. In retaliation, the Nazis decided to trade the lives of 50 Greek prisoners for one German, leading Napoleon and 199 other prisoners down a predetermined path.As the execution day approached, camp commander Fischer (played by André Hennicke) intended to keep Napoleon at the camp as his translator, thus giving him a chance to escape the death penalty. However, the condition for this reprieve was that Napoleon had to find another prisoner to take his place and face the punishment. Faced with this cruel choice, Napoleon was consumed by inner turmoil. He knew that this decision would have profound implications for him and the other prisoners.
