Young girl Sasha (Nina Drobysheva) encounters the handsome air force pilot Alexei (Evgeniy Urbanskiy). During Alexei's short stay, their feelings for each other rapidly intensify. After that, Alexei returns to the front lines, at which point Sasha is already pregnant with his child. Shortly after, the child is born, but along with the joy comes the heartbreaking news that Alexei has been killed in action. In despair and sorrow, Sasha grits her teeth and vows to raise the product of their love. After the war, Sasha's sister and brother return home, and during this time, Sasha receives astonishing news: Alexei is not dead, but has been captured by the enemy.
