In the winter of 1947, in order to seize the distribution map of over ten thousand advance troops controlled by bandits in the Northeast, the commander of the Northeast Democratic United Army's 203rd team, Shao Jianbo (played by Lin Gengxin), assigns scout Yang Ziyong (played by Zhang Hanyu) to go undercover into the largest bandit stronghold, "Tiger Mountain." Using his intelligence and adaptability, Yang Ziyong gains the favor of the bandit leader, Zuoshan Diao (played by Tony Leung), and his eight major henchmen, being titled "Old Nine" of Tiger Mountain. Zuoshan Diao, inherently suspicious, repeatedly sends people to test Yang Ziyong. While Yang Ziyong navigates various challenges with the bandits, he also takes risks to relay information to his comrades below.
