The film is the directorial debut of Charlotte Wells, a New York writer born in Scotland. Set in the late 1990s, the story follows an inquisitive 11-year-old girl named Sophie (played by Frankie Corio) and her young single father (played by Paul Mescal) as they embark on a holiday to Turkey. The seemingly mundane incidents that occur there, along with fleeting conversations—both spoken and unspoken—paint a portrait of the parent-child relationship, revealing how both become each other's rock without realizing it. Twenty years later, when Sophie reaches the same age as her father was during that trip, she recalls fragments of memories from that summer at eleven, where the familiar and caring image of her father gradually reveals the sadness he never shared with her that year.
