Hannibal (Gaspard Ulliel) had a bright and warm childhood, with his lovely little sister by his side, the person he loved the most. However, war took everything away—his father, mother, and home. Yet this was only the beginning of the nightmare; the true disaster that ruined his life was the death of his sister—a cruel act by the Germans, who ate his sister. The death of his sister became Hannibal's eternal nightmare, with her face and voice often appearing in his dreams. Hannibal decided to seek out his last remaining relative, his uncle's wife, a mysterious Eastern woman known as Madame Hu (Gong Li). Madame Hu taught Hannibal the art of combat and introduced him to the essence of the Eastern culture of raw eating. It seemed Hannibal found a way to escape the shadows of his childhood; he began to kill and eat people, finding temporary peace for his soul in the bloodshed. The enemies responsible for his sister’s death met tragic fates one by one. Over time, a subtle affection developed between Hannibal and Madame Hu, but at that moment, what could the young Hannibal, whose soul was trapped in the mire, still have left to love?
