The thousand-year-old fox demon absorbs human yang energy, causing a small spider to fall to the entrance of Nanshan Gate. The small spider accidentally consumes an immortal elixir, gets injured by a child in the mortal realm, and is later saved by a young monk named Jiekong, who names her Bunian. Bunian and Jiekong follow each other like shadows, meditating and practicing Zen through the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Influenced by Buddhist teachings, she transforms into human form and is soon discovered by Master Huirui. Bunian's lively and playful nature inadvertently leads to a fire in the scriptures pavilion, making it difficult for the temple to reform her, so she is sent down the mountain with the "Heart Sutra of True Love" to find Master Huiming at the Anyi Villa. Bunian and Jiekong begin their journey through the human world, encountering a strong and domineering woman named Wang Shanzhen, who sees Bunian as a demoness and Jiekong as a demon monk. Despite multiple attempts to capture them, Bunian repels each attack. Wang then seeks help from the fox demon, who injures Jiekong while trying to protect Bunian. Ultimately, the fox demon understands that love is not possession but sacrifice, and decides to re-cultivate. Though Jiekong originally belonged to the Buddhist realm, he is tainted by the mortal world due to Bunian, shortening his lifespan. Bunian resolves to give up her demon core to revitalize Jiekong and isolates herself in Nanshan to pray for his blessings and longevity.
