In a desolate seaside resort, Mari, who helps at a hotel called Iris run by her Japanese mother, hears a woman's scream echoing from upstairs one day. The woman in the red camisole is in a panic, trying to escape the man's insults and violence. Mari is in a daze, merely observing the unusual situation. Meanwhile, another part of her is intensely attracted to the man's behavior, and she begins to notice that something deep within her is awakening. The man is a translator of Russian literature, living alone on a small island a short boat ride away. Residents gossip that he might be the real culprit of a murder that occurred in the past.
