The story takes place after the end of World War II when the brutal war has destroyed much of the cities and land, making women the greatest victims of the war. After a long wait, 26 brides are finally able to reunite with their longed-for lovers, traveling thousands of miles aboard a plane named "Bride Flight." Aida (Karina Smulders), Esther (Anna Drijver), and Marjorie (Elise Schaap) are among these women. On the plane, Aida encounters the handsome Frank (Waldemar Torenstra), and they quickly fall in love. Later, Esther finds herself pregnant with Frank's child from their brief romance. After the child is born, Esther gives him to Marjorie, who is unable to have children. Even after marriage, Aida cannot forget Frank, and her deep feelings are eventually discovered by her husband.
