The camera focuses on a boy named Bud (played by Leigh McCormack), who lost his father at an early age and lives a dependent life with his mother (played by Marjorie Yates) and older brother. Bud’s entire childhood is shrouded in loneliness and solitude; at school, he attends classes alone, daydreams alone, and goes home alone while constantly on guard against the threats and mockery of the stronger boys in class. After returning home, Bud is always by himself. His mother suggests he spend more time with friends, but she doesn’t know that Bud doesn’t even have anyone he can truly call a friend. Bud spends his days observing and listening to the world and lost in his own thoughts. At night, terrifying nightmares come knocking. Thus, day after day, Bud grows up. When he reminisces about this ordinary yet unique childhood, what feelings will arise within him?
