Academy Award winners Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley star. Sherlock Holmes aids the London police in solving countless cases, but Holmes does not exist. The role of the great detective has always been played by a man named Reginald Kincaid, a temporary "actor" hired by Watson, who is clumsy and an alcoholic. Because of this, Watson wants to fire him, but just as the officials from the treasury are about to visit Holmes, Watson has no choice but to keep him on, continuing this grand deception and "relying" on him to crack new mysteries.
