Hansel (played by John Cameron Mitchell) has been drawn to rock music since childhood and hopes to become a rock singer. One day, he meets American soldier Luther (played by Maurice Dean Wint), who agrees to take him to the U.S., but only on the condition that Hansel must marry him. To pursue his dream, Hansel undergoes gender reassignment surgery. Although the surgery leaves him with permanent scars, he finally sets foot on American soil.
