The film tells the story of how a journey through South America ignited Che Guevara's new worldview, causing revolutionary fervor to begin to blossom in his heart. Guevara (played by Gael García Bernal) was 23 years old at the time, full of vigor and ambition, and was a medical student. He had a strong curiosity about the outside world, so he set out on a lengthy journey across Latin America with his friend Alberto. They rode their motorcycle, speeding off, but soon their bike broke down. However, this did not dampen the young men's enthusiasm, and they completed the rest of their journey by hitchhiking. Traveling through ancient ruins of Latin American civilizations and mingling with diverse crowds in various countries, they began to truly feel the truth of society and the struggles of life. When they ventured deep into the leper colony in the Amazon basin, they were deeply shocked by what they saw and heard.
