Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black) is a rock musician over thirty who is still striving for his ideals. He scorns the hypocritical music filled with commercial flattery, wholeheartedly pursuing pure rock that expresses true emotions. To this end, he has parted ways with countless bands, leaving him unsuccessful in his career and facing the embarrassing situation of being evicted by his landlord. Dewey's male landlord and old friend, Ned Schneebly (played by Mike White), was once a passionate death metal musician but has now transformed into a responsible man and a substitute teacher. While lounging at home, Dewey accidentally receives a call from a middle school offering Ned a substitute teaching position. Out of boredom and financial necessity, Dewey impersonates Ned and enters a prestigious school with a very strict atmosphere to teach. The students' lethargy makes him feel increasingly bored until one day he discovers the children's musical talent. So, he deceives everyone and leads this group of academically focused kids into a new and wonderfully fun world of rock...
