Film director Sally (played by Sally Potter) encounters a creative block while working on her new script, leaving her frustrated and helpless. After watching a passionate tango dance performance, she is deeply inspired and feels as if she has found some ideas. Determined to take a break from work, she begins to learn tango. During her trip to Paris, she meets the famous tango dancer Pablo, whose dance captivates her. She proposes that he perform in her next film in exchange for teaching her to dance. As Sally becomes more immersed in tango, she and Pablo fall in love during their lessons. However, the two come from very different cultural backgrounds and have contrasting personalities: Pablo, from South America, has a strong desire for control and is accustomed to managing all aspects of the dance, including their romantic relationship; while Sally, a feminist, is the key person in deciding Pablo's participation in her film. Their relationship oscillates between tension and ease, quietly igniting a battle of love.
