The story takes place in France in 1795, where the junior officer Napoleon (played by Christian Clavier) encounters the beautiful Josephine (played by Isabella Rossellini), and the two fall in love at first sight. They quickly become entwined. Subsequently, Napoleon's outstanding performance in war and the people's support for him provoke the discontent of the Paris government, leading his superiors to send him to distant and dangerous Egypt. While in Egypt, upon learning that the country's security is threatened by the anti-French coalition, Napoleon decisively returns to launch a coup, ultimately succeeding in becoming the Chief Executive. However, by 1807, encouraged by the Tsar, Austria invades France. To maintain the stability of his regime, Napoleon is forced into an alliance with an Austrian princess, but it is already too late, and at the same time, the sorrowful Josephine leaves him.
