Zatoichi, captured for illegal gambling, was asked by the yakuza Jimizo, who had been sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit while in jail, to seek help from his brother, either Senpachi of the Kuroba gang or boss Jubei of the Araiso gang, to prove his innocence. The next morning, after leaving the prison, Zatoichi met with the young yakuza Hyakutarou, but he was angered when he received an extravagant welcome at the home of Kamajuu from Aota, who had a deep connection with Zatoichi, and parted ways with Hyakutarou. A few days later, at an inn in Oarai, Zatoichi managed to find Senpachi of Kuroba, where he shared Jimizo's situation and requested assistance.
