In 1964, the young Ali (Will Smith) triumphed over Sonny Liston to become the new champion, thanks to his exceptional boxing skills and unyielding determination! During the Vietnam War, Ali refused to serve in the military because “the Viet Cong never called me a nigger.” It was Ali’s straightforward character and refusal to yield to what he believed was wrong that led to his many hardships: the U.S. government tried every method to imprison him; the boxing council stripped him of his championship belt, and so on. In the tumultuous decade from 1964 to 1974, Ali's unwavering perseverance and independence resonated not only with him personally, but also within the boxing community and the society at large. He became a spiritual leader of the Black movement and the anti-Vietnam War movement. Finally, in 1974, with extraordinary determination at the age of 34, Ali challenged for the title once again!
