The film tells the story of the one-armed swordsman, Wang Gang, who visits Japan to see a friend and encounters a Chinese orphan. He meets Zatoichi, and their language barrier leads to many humorous misunderstandings. Eventually, due to unresolved misunderstandings, they are forced to fight for their lives. The blind Zatoichi is known for his lightning-fast sword-drawing technique, while the one-armed hero Wang Gang uses his unique golden sword style and agility to counter him. In the end, misunderstandings are cleared up, and Wang Gang exclaims, "You are a good man. If only we could communicate..." Interestingly, to cater to the emotions of both fan bases, the film was released in two versions: the Japanese version is called "Blind Swordsman: The Breakdown of the Chinese Sword," where Zatoichi takes Wang Gang's life, while the Hong Kong version is titled "The One-Armed Swordsman vs. Blind Master," ending with the one-armed swordsman defeating the blind master.
