Shot by a gun from the ambitious traveling yakuza Seiroku, Zatoichi embarks on a journey to Kashizawa in search of the unknown benefactor who saved him and even left money for his medical treatment. In Kashizawa, there is a conflict between Bunkichi from Tsuzuki and An Gorō from Takeya across the Fuji River. Bunkichi invited Edō's firework master Kyūbei to bring joy to the locals with fireworks this year, sending his daughter Okuni to fetch him, but it was Okuni who saved Zatoichi. After learning this about Kashizawa, Zatoichi expressed his deep gratitude to Okuni and stayed at Bunkichi's house as a humble masseur. The known nickname "Kitsu An" refers to An Gorō, who took advantage of his sister Osen being the magistrate's wife to target Bunkichi's territory, challenging him frequently. However, gentle Bunkichi disregarded the provocations and calmed his hot-headed followers. It was at this time that Seiroku returned home to Bunkichi's house. Seiroku, Bunkichi's son, had caused endless trouble for his family before running away, and he was shocked to see Zatoichi. He had planned to rise in status among the tradesmen by defeating the renowned Zatoichi. However, the blind Zatoichi had no way of knowing that Seiroku was the person who shot him. Seiroku was caught in Kitsu An's trap. In a tense situation of whether to hand over the territory or risk Seiroku's life, Zatoichi secretly infiltrated Kitsu An's house and successfully rescued Seiroku. Upon realizing that the masseur who whisked Seiroku away was the infamous Zatoichi with a list of crimes, Kitsu An requested the magistrate to capture Zatoichi. Upon learning of this, Bunkichi took precautions for Zatoichi's safety, urging him to leave early without disclosing the circumstances. As soon as they saw the troublesome Zatoichi leave, Kitsu An's family, led by the bodyguard Tengen, stormed into Bunkichi's home. Caught off guard, Seiroku and Bunkichi were defeated. But what suddenly appeared in Kitsu An's home, intoxicated with victory, was Zatoichi, trembling with anger.
