The failure of her marriage is a brutal blow for Francis (played by Diane Lane), a woman writer in her thirties. Luckily, her caring friend arranges for her to travel to Tuscany, Italy. Unbeknownst to her, this breathtakingly beautiful city will change the course of Francis's life. Francis sees an advertisement for a villa in the Tuscan countryside. Initially, she had no plans, but a series of coincidences leads her to form an unbreakable bond with the house. Thus, the American writer resolutely decides to give up everything from her past and start anew in a foreign land. As Francis decorates her new home, the myriad of details gives her headaches, while the various newcomers and new experiences overwhelm her. A new romance also unfolds before her. The bright sunlight of Tuscany gradually enriches Francis's heart.
