While crossing a suspension bridge, Zatoichi inadvertently causes the death of an elderly woman. Later, feeling guilty, he goes to a brothel to redeem the woman's daughter. However, the woman's lover, wanting to get her back, collaborates with a group of villains, using the woman as leverage. They pierce Zatoichi's hands, and ultimately, in extremely harsh and cruel circumstances, the now-handicapped Zatoichi kills the band of villains. This is the darkest episode in the series, where the helpful Zatoichi almost loses his life. Additionally, a captured prostitute ultimately cannot escape from the brothel, and a young boy is killed by the villains, with his sister holding his corpse afterward.
