During the four great battles of the Korean War, there was a brave and valiant volunteer army in China. They resolutely traveled far from home to defend the country, experiencing life and death together during their days of fighting side by side, establishing a profound revolutionary bond. Sun Beichuan (Liu Ye) is the core leader of this group; he is battle-hardened, rugged in personality but kind-hearted, and fearless on the battlefield. However, after meeting the head of the art troupe, Meng Sanxia (Wang Luodan), this courage gains an additional sense of responsibility. Meng Sanxia is straightforward and a bit tough on the outside but soft-hearted inside; her relationship with the rough-and-tumble Sun Beichuan begins with banter, and after experiencing the trials of life and death on the battlefield together, her inner tenderness is awakened. Meanwhile, Sun Beichuan's good brother and bugler, Zhang Luodong (Yang Youning), also develops feelings for Meng Sanxia. His solitary fate shapes his pure and optimistic personality; to match Beichuan and Sanxia, he is willing to hide his feelings. However, after losing his only family, his father Li Shunliang, Zhang Luodong experiences pain for the first time. Li Shunliang (Huang Zhizhong) is Zhang Luodong's adoptive father and a seasoned veteran in the unit. He speaks bluntly and hits the nail on the head, serving as the lubricant for the ninth company and as a spiritual mentor to Zhang Luodong. His sacrifice leads to a significant transformation in Zhang Luodong's life. Wang Wenjun (Ye Qing) is a progressive young woman from a good background in Meng Sanxia's art troupe. She uses her life to demonstrate trust and support to her lover, Liu Shiwen (Wang Longhua), awakening the strongest and most masculine side of this passionate intellectual about serving the country, facilitating his transformation from intellectual to true soldier. This group of ordinary yet extraordinary individuals writes love-interwoven battlefield stories during the harsh and brutal years of war.
