In 1919, with the end of World War I, war-torn Europe had yet to recover, and the Paris Peace Conference, aimed at resolving the issues left by the war and laying the foundations for peace, was about to convene. As one of the victorious countries, China sent a delegation of five, led by Gu Weijun (played by Chen Daoming), the then Minister to the United States and plenipotentiary representative. However, in the context of Western countries and powers like Japan seeking to redefine their spheres of influence, the size of the Chinese delegation was reduced, and Germany's interests in Shandong were about to fall into Japanese hands. Gu Weijun delivered a passionate speech at the conference, refuting Japan's unreasonable demands, yet justice seemed fragile in the face of interests. Gu Weijun's friend, Xiao Kejian (played by He Zhengjun), had his wife Mei (played by Xu Qing) travel to Paris to find him, as he was involved in the patriotic workers' movement. Kejian's activities in France, along with the vast public outcry back home, pressed Gu Weijun and others in the conference with a sense of great responsibility.
