Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman), who has just completed his prison sentence, successfully campaigns for the presidency of South Africa. He leads people to break down the apartheid system and takes the initiative by hiring a white security team to establish communication across different races. As the host of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, South Africa returns to the international sports community. However, South Africa's predominantly white rugby team, the Springboks, is seen by many black people as a symbol of racial discrimination.
