Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman), who has just completed his prison sentence, successfully campaigns for the presidency of South Africa. He leads people to break down the apartheid system and takes the initiative by hiring a white security team to establish communication across different races. As the host of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, South Africa returns to the international sports community. However, South Africa's predominantly white rugby team, the Springboks, is seen by many black people as a symbol of racial discrimination. To bridge the divide, Mandela, with a long-sighted vision, supports the Springboks' exchanges and matches with visiting foreign teams. He meets with the Springboks' captain, Francois Pienaar (played by Matt Damon), and they have a heartfelt conversation. The latter leads the white players on visits across South Africa, popularizing the sport of rugby among the general public, making it a bond between black and white people... This film is adapted from John Carlin's work "Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation."
