Unable to endure the strict school rules, the girl Isabel (Kate Hudson) resolutely leaves film school to live the free life she desires. Isabel's sister Rosiny (Naomi Watts), settled in Paris, faces betrayal from her painter husband Charles (Melvil Poupaud) while pregnant. Angered, Rosiny decides to divorce and writes a letter to Isabel, hoping her sister can come to her side to support her during this difficult time. One day, by chance, Isabel meets a French diplomat named Edgar (Thierry Lhermitte). Though Edgar is already a seventy-year-old man, Isabel is still captivated by his generosity and charm. Despite others' doubts about their relationship, Isabel insists on her own thoughts and beliefs until she discovers that Edgar is actually her relative.
