Chris Gardner (played by Will Smith) spends all his savings to buy a high-tech medical device and tries to sell it to hospitals, but the price is high and not many accept it. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot provide a good living environment for his wife and son, and his wife (played by Thandie Newton) ultimately chooses to leave.
