Jon (played by Domhnall Gleeson) is a young man who loves music. One day, he accidentally joins a somewhat neurotic underground band, whose lead singer and soul is Frank (played by Michael Fassbender) - a talented genius who wears a large headpiece all day long. Jon follows the band to a remote cabin in Ireland to record an album, where they live a life close to being isolated from the world. For the past year, Jon has been secretly posting videos of their life on social networks. Eventually, the band’s unique experiences catch the attention of a music festival organizer, and Jon convinces the members to travel to the United States to participate in a music festival called South by Southwest (SXSW) to gain fame. This film is adapted from the memoirs of Jon Ronson. The band leader Frank is based on Chris Sievey, who was very popular in the 70s and 80s and was also a witty actor known for his comedic persona "Frank Sidebottom." There are also traces of eccentric musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart in Frank.
