Juliet Grant (Patricia Clarkson) flies from Canada to Cairo, Egypt, to vacation with her husband Mark (Tom McCamus), who she rarely sees. However, upon landing, she learns that due to new armed conflicts in Gaza, her husband, who manages the UN refugee camp, cannot leave temporarily. Mark's former security officer, the Egyptian Tareq (Alexander Siddig), looks after Juliet. At a reception at the embassy, Juliet meets a young woman named Catherine (Elena Anaya) who is in a similar predicament. The two of them explore the White Desert together, and Catherine shares her past love story with an Egyptian man. Later, Tareq takes Juliet to enjoy the breathtaking sights of Cairo, and Juliet finds herself developing feelings for him through their constant interactions. The subtle emotions make Juliet extremely sad... This film won the Best Canadian Feature Film Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
