Nationalist Army officer Fan Long (played by Tony Leung) escapes from a prisoner of war camp and, after much hardship, returns to the Nationalist Army camp. Soldier A Ding (played by Jimmy Lin) also returns to the troops, and veteran Lao Xie (played by Ng Man-tat) provides brotherly support to A Ding, who has lost his comrades. Commander He (played by Ke Junxiong) negotiates with the Myanmar side, trying to lay down arms and surrender, while Fan Long cleverly preserves some weapons. However, the Myanmar side intends to wipe out the Nationalist Army; thanks to Fan Long, the Nationalist Army manages to break out. Soon, however, the group begins to divide, with Fan Long and others joining the bandits, while Commander He leads the remaining troops to surrender to the Thai government. The Nationalist soldiers stranded in the Golden Triangle engage in a desperate struggle for survival...
