A spring thunder in 1949 awakened the long-sleeping snow mountains, and a tremendous change brewed in the ancient and mysterious land. One day in 1950, a red army arrived in Ganzi, located in the southwest of Sichuan, as the People's Liberation Army stationed here and began constructing the Sichuan-Tibet railway connecting the Tibetan region to the outside world. Recently graduated geology technician Li Sujie (played by Su Youpeng) came with the army, eager to serve his country.
