Lazzaro (played by Adriano Tardiolo) is a simple-hearted young farmer, while Tancredi (played by Luca Chikovani) is an arrogant young nobleman. He lives in the isolated town of Inviolata, which is ruled by the Marchioness Alfonsina de Luna (played by Nicoletta Braschi). The young farmer and the young nobleman meet and become friends.
