This film tells the story of how a kindergarten principal guides three habitual offenders back to the right path. By coincidence, the adorable Troshkin looks just like the dangerous thief Dotsent, almost like a pair of twin brothers. The police send him deep into Dotsent's crime gang to investigate where they hide their loot. However, the real Dotsent has escaped from prison, complicating matters. This film is categorized as a New Year's comedy because the most touching moment occurs at the turn of the year when the fugitive admits that his lifestyle is wrong. "Lucky Man" is not just a New Year's comedy; in fact, it is considered one of the best Soviet films. There are no exact statistics, but subjectively, this film seems to have produced the most famous quotes in Soviet cinema, roughly estimated to be over one hundred and fifty. A memorial statue of Evgeniy Leonov, who played the role of Dotsent, was erected across from the Moscow film studio. Almost no one in Russia cannot recognize this famous actor and the character from the film depicted in the statue. Interestingly, authorities hesitated to release this film due to the large amount of prison slang, but it was finally screened after Leonid Brezhnev, the General Secretary of the Communist Party, personally approved it.
