Under the neon lights of Tokyo at night, a warm-hearted midnight diner quietly opens in an unremarkable corner of the city. The enchanting Kawashima Tamako (played by Saki Takao) looks disheartened; her support recently passed away, leaving her nothing in inheritance. During her time of despair, an unremarkable salaryman named Shokichi (played by Toma Ikuta) enters Tamako's line of sight, and their relationship quickly becomes closer. A countryside girl, Kuriyama Michiru (played by Mako Takaoka), arrives in Tokyo alone; in her desperate moment, she dines on a free meal from the owner (played by Kō Nishimura) and later returns to ask for work to repay her debt, thus finding a temporary place to stay. The 3.11 earthquake brings together disaster victim Ōishi Kenzō (played by Michitaka Tsutsui) and volunteer Sugita Akemi (played by Akiko Kikuchi) from Tokyo. Ōishi fervently pursues her, even following her to Tokyo.
Small stories of ordinary people unfold within the midnight diner...
