Before ascending the throne, the young heir Victoria (played by Emily Blunt) is dissatisfied with her mother, the Duchess of Kent and Strathearn (played by Miranda Richardson), for being manipulated by her private advisor, Sir John Conroy (played by Mark Strong), who pressures her to sign a regency agreement. During this time, a lonely Victoria meets her cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (played by Rupert Friend), for the first time. In 1836, Queen Victoria comes to the throne, and her affairs are mainly supervised by Lord Melbourne (played by Paul Bettany), but there are various upheavals among different factions. An anxious Victoria writes to request Prince Albert to come from Belgium to England, and they marry in 1840. After the marriage, Albert discovers that he has not been fully accepted as a foreigner, while Victoria will use her royal authority to intimidate him during quarrels until a sudden assassination attempt makes her realize Albert's significance in her life.
