A classic directed by Michael Cacoyannis, set in a remote countryside of Crete, Greece. Young British writer Alan Bates has not written for a long time, and when he encounters the wise Greek farmer Anthony Quinn and sees him freely and wholeheartedly engaged in life, he decides to rediscover the cultural treasures left by his ancestors. The film is exquisitely produced and highly entertaining, with Anthony Quinn's performance being particularly captivating, beautifully portraying the friendship between two men from different backgrounds and personalities. It won three Academy Awards, including Best Black-and-White Cinematography, and was later adapted into a Broadway stage play.
