The film is based on a true story. The breakdown of his family hits James (played by Luke Treadaway) hard, leading him to self-destruct; he develops a drug addiction, is left with nothing, and becomes a street performer. Val (played by Joanne Froggatt) is the doctor at the rehabilitation center overseeing James, and with her help, he finally finds a home that provides shelter and support. Val firmly believes that James can overcome the temptation of drugs through his own willpower. One day, a stray cat wanders into James's home, and he adopts it, naming it Bob. When James goes out to perform on the street, Bob follows him everywhere. Soon, the duo attracts the attention of passersby, significantly improving James's financial situation. Meanwhile, James meets Bella (played by Ruta Gedmintas), a woman living next door, reigniting his desire for love.
