Three friends, Alex (Ewan McGregor), David (Christopher Eccleston), and Juliet (Kerry Fox), live together in an apartment. While searching for a new flatmate, they ask a series of bizarre questions and have a lot of fun. Eventually, under Juliet's suggestion, they welcome a single male writer named Hugo. However, shortly after moving in, Hugo dies in the apartment. In a panic, the three discover a box filled with a large sum of cash. The temptation of money is hard to resist, and they secretly dismember and bury Hugo. With the cash in hand, Alex and Juliet feel triumphant, but accountant David is filled with worry. After Alex and Juliet squander the money, David finally erupts and moves the money box to the attic for safekeeping. Meanwhile, two criminals, in search of the money box, go on a killing spree and break into the apartment. David suddenly fights back and kills one of the criminals. By now, David has become increasingly neurotic, steering events toward a more dangerous direction...
