An Eighth Route Army soldier captured a strategic attack map from the Japanese army, but unfortunately got seriously injured and had to hand the map to his farmer brother Er Zhu, asking him to rush to the train station to deliver the map to the comrades. Meanwhile, Qin Gui (played by Huang Hong) from Northeast China was assigned by the shopkeeper to receive the map at the train station. On the other hand, a cotton-picking farmer, Lao Yao (played by Wei Zongwan), who is determined to join the Eighth Route Army to resist the Japanese, and his young uncle Shun Zi (played by Zhao Liang) are searching for the Eighth Route Army. The uncle and nephew coincidentally encounter a storyteller (played by Xu Yukun) who is skilled in vocal imitation at a tea house. The three save the already injured Er Zhu from the gunfire of Japanese officer Sasaki Ichiro (played by Sun Min), with the storyteller replacing Er Zhu to hand over the map, while Lao Yao and Shun Zi run away to draw Sasaki's troops away. At the train station, Qin Gui mistakenly identifies the storyteller as the contact person of the Eighth Route Army and clings to him. The soon-arriving Lao Yao and Shun Zi briefly reunite, but the four are again scattered by Japanese artillery. Qin Gui, Lao Yao, and the storyteller are trapped in a cellar, while Shun Zi goes to a neighboring village to gather villagers for rescue, leading to an intense chase between ordinary people and the Japanese soldiers...
